Story {5 Minute Friday}

What is the story behind this picture?  Is it a father and daughter?  A mother and son?  Is it a couple in love?  A couple in the midst of celebration?  In the midst of tragedy?

Every picture has a story. Some say a picture is worth a 1,000 words.  Is this one?  You bet.

Documenting our story through pictures is a wonderful way to remember exciting, monumental moments in our lives.  I’ve always wanted to be a photographer.  In my dreams I’m working professionally as a photographer.  As in any other profession there are ups and downs to any job.

The story behind this photograph is a man and woman.  A husband and wife.  In the midst of tragedy.

I had the honor of photographing a friend just after she’d delivered, at 19 weeks, her stillborn baby. The baby she’d been praying about for months already.  It was a very emotional night.  Her little tiny baby boy was perfect….10 fingers, 10 toes, perfectly formed mouth, nose, eyes, ears, just beautiful.

The glorious moments of your story are typically photographed.  Weddings, graduations, babies, first days of school among them.   These sad, tragic moments are sometimes just as important to photograph because they are part of your story.

Dance {5 Minute Friday}

In my mind you can’t have dance without music.  They go together like peanut butter and jelly or macaroni & cheese with sugar!  Of course I could dance to the music in my head but it’s just not the same!

I love to dance. I used to love going to clubs with my friends just to dance! My husband does not.  To him even with music there is no reason to dance!  At weddings he will slow dance but that’s it. No fast-dancing, line-dancing or club dancing for him!

I’ll never forget the most special dance I had with him.  Believe it or not it wasn’t our wedding dance although that ranks up there.  We had just started dating after being best friends for over six years.  We were college students with really no money to do more than go to the movies.

One night as he was dropping me off he asked me to get out of the car. He popped open his trunk, put in a CD and played our song.  We danced in the moonlight, on my parents driveway at 2am.  It still is one of the sweetest, most amazing moments in our lives.

In case you want to hear…here is our song. Believe it or not he’s not a country music fan either yet this has always been our song…this guy amazes me!!

Path: A Letter {5 Minute Friday}

To my boys,

It is my ultimate dream in life to watch you grow into loving, spirit-filled, Godly men.  I pray that you choose the best path for you.  I want you to be happy in the life you lead.  I pray your father and I are living a peaceful, meaningful, God-filled example of a life to inspire you.

Years from now I want you to follow your dreams.  While I’ll always look out for what’s best for you, I’ll always feed the dreams that lie in your heart.  You can do anything.  You can be anything!  You are brilliant, charming, loving, special and amazingly unique.  You inspire me every single day to want to be a better mom.

Thank you for being part of my path.  It was a dimly-lit, dirt-filled path until you entered our lives.  Your father and I are so proud of you both and always will be.  We love you and are thrilled to guide you down your path until you find your own.  It’s exciting to know that you will find your own but it will never be too far from ours!  I love you.

Always & forever,

Mom

See {5 Minute Friday}

This is what I see in my dreams. I close my eyes and this is where I am.  At the beach, sand in my toes, smell of ocean in my hair and sun on my back. It’s beautiful, it’s calming, it’s peaceful.

I open them and it’s chaos. Bills need to be paid, house needs to be cleaned, laundry to be folded and, and….  It’s never ending. All of these things would need to be done even if I were living at the beach. Why is it we see the grass as greener when the main things wouldn’t change?

I’m starting to see all the things in my life are what makes me well, me!  I wear so many hats that I started not seeing myself.   I need to see myself as vividly as I see this beach when I close my eyes to dream. Who am I? What will I become?  Only time will tell but I’m working on ME!!!
