Hello date night!

Date night?  Anyone with kids remember what that is?!?

I love my husband and I love my kids.  We do however go through times that we need to reconnect.

It seems lately that if have the opportunity to go out minus kids we can’t seem to think of a new place to go.  I blame mommy/daddy brain for the forgetfulness.  So we have a sitter.  What happens next?  Inevitably we head to the same restaurant we always go to or head to the movies.  What else is there to do in the Midwest?  There has to be more to life than the same old.

So we got smart. We began writing down new restaurants and new activities as we thought of them. Those things I read in our newspaper that I thought sounded really fun to try but I knew I’d never remember later.  The new restaurant hubby mentioned that would slip his mind when the next date night rolled around.  Thus, the date night jars were born!

I have three jars based solely on price.  In case it’s a tighter week than most we can do something on the cheap.  If we are going out for an anniversary or birthday maybe something pricier.   Massages of course could be pricey or cheap…

I’m so excited to put these into play.  Rather than going to the same boring places it will be like it was in college! We’ll be more adventurous in our activities, try new foods and therefore have more memories.

I’d love to share some pictures of your date night jars if you feel inclined to share them!  I’ll also highlight your blog if you’d like.

Question of the day – what is your favorite date?

Creating something new!

So my oldest had questioned why the cloud dough couldn’t be any other than color than off-white. What a great question. I hadn’t thought anything about it until he mentioned it.

We gave it a try! Why not right?!? At first it didn’t go as planned. He wanted to add food coloring. So we did. It didn’t do anything to the cloud dough we already had.

So we added the food coloring to the baby oil and started over with fresh flour. That did work! We made several different colors but of course they got all mixed together which made it one dull brownish color. Overall the boys had fun doing something they thought of themselves.

I always try to encourage any hypothesis and problem solving!!

Day in the ‘clouds’

What a beautiful day it was today!

We had an old kiddie table that stored blocks sitting around completely ‘outgrown’ so we emptied it and used it for cloud dough. We put the lid on the table for naps and went back to it a few hours later. It was still useable! With it being a moist mixture I wasn’t sure if it would dry out but it didn’t. Just a tip for those of you that don’t want to use 8 cups of flour each time the kids want to play in the clouds!

Quickest way to relax

Have you ever colored just to color? Have you ever wished life were as simple as it seems in a movie or television show? I LOVE coloring with my kids. It’s calming, relaxing and just plain fun! Here’s a picture my boys wanted me to color because I’m a girl and Jessie is a girl. Such a cute reason. I had a lot of fun.

Take 10 minutes out for yourself today to and be sure to comment to let me know what you chose to do!

Pinning, pinning and more pinning!!!

Hosting two baby showers for my sister-in-law recently was both rewarding and exhausting! I decided I wanted to do something fun. Where did I find these amazing projects? Where else?!? Pinterest. Anyone else in LOVE with Pinterest?!? Finding new activities for the kids, crafts for me or DIY projects for the house is exhilarating. If you have a particular favorite ‘pin’ I’d love to hear about it.

Here are the two I chose! A new take on the old diaper cake which turned out even cuter than the photo.  We played a game of guessing how many diapers it took.  It’s definitely deceiving.  I won’t give it away in case you decide to make one of your own!  The other craft was these super sweet felt owls. The baby’s room was done in woodland creatures with owls. These were meant (original purpose of the pin) to be used for a mobile but she used them on a wallpaper tree in the baby’s room.
