Thankless Thursday: Disaster

So I’m back for another installment of Thankless Thursday.

I’ll be completely honest here. We’re all friends right? I actually took last Thursday off from any and all chores. I needed a break. I don’t mean a short 15 minute relaxation period during naps. I mean a full-on day off from it all.

I ignored the laundry, the dishes, the toys on the floor and anything else.

How did I spend my Thursday? I enjoyed playing with the munchkins!! It was awesome.

One thing however I shouldn’t have ignored was the pool. I can’t believe I’m including a photo. We just had it opened & it’s SO disgusting. The cover ripped during the winter and as a result…..

Yep this qualifies as a thankless job. It’s utterly grotesque! We had an unseasonably warm winter which caused all of this. It smelled like a lake and looked worse than one. I’m happy to report that the pool water is clear and beautiful now thanks to all the chemicals and vacuuming.

Don’t get me wrong. I am bursting with thankfulness that we have this pool but it is a job that we forget about until the beginning of summer appears each year. I can grumble for a day right?!?

Please tell me how bad your Thankless Thursday was today! Anyone’s worse than this?

Here we go…my first attempt!

Studying Proverbs 31 : 7-9 yesterday really got me thinking. Thankless Thursday was a post about thankless jobs that we as wives and mothers do every day. Yes these things need to be done. Yes these things are usually something we don’t love. Who loves cleaning the fridge? Who really loves cleaning a toilet? I admit that I love having these things clean but the act of cleaning them doesn’t excite me at all.

Proverbs 31 : 7-9 Open your mouth for the dumb (unable to speak for themselves) for the rights of all who are left desolate and hopeless. Open your mouth, judge righteously and administer justice for the poor and needy.

This two verses prompted a great discussion within our study group. What do the verses mean? How are they applicable in our lives? We spoke about those in our lives that genuinely need us to speak for them. Who are these people? The homeless, the weak, our children, the lost?

As you meditate on these verses please leave a comment. I would love to hear another perspective on these verses. Needless to say talking about some of the things I do daily that I wish someone would thank me for made me realize I should be thankful for having those things. Hello humble pie! I am thankful I have a toilet to clean, a yard to tend to and dirty diapers to change. No these aren’t glamorous by any means but they are part of the life I love.

Thankless Thursday

Just thinking about cleaning on what is probably the most beautiful day of the season almost made me sick to my stomach! It was GORGEOUS here today. Sunny, breezy, not too hot…perfection. The kind of weather I dream about.

On my list today? Cleaning out the fridge. I can not stand this chore. It’s up there with cleaning the toilet. It needs to be done but will anyone notice? Of course I love it when it’s completed but the before and during are utter agony. So…not that anyone needs or wants to see the inside of my fridge but here are some before and after pics.

Why is this a thankless job? It’s thankless because in all honesty it’s a little hard to see that it’s ‘clean’ but it’s fresh and also a bit more organized.

So what is your least favorite chore? What is your Thankless Thursday? I want to be there to cheer you on and say great job! It’s the little things we do on a daily or weekly basis that help keep our families running. Those are also the things that tend to get overlooked. I’m not sure why but if someone else decided to clean the fridge I’d feel obligated to thank them. Why is that?

Most of the time I’m not thanked for the little things I do to keep our house in order such as grocery shopping, cleaning toilets, laundry or cleaning up the crumbs on the floor for the 8th time before noon. I say most of the time because my husband is pretty awesome about noticing and does give me a shout out.

So for all of you out there that don’t get thanked at all or don’t get thanked enough – I thank you! I know the hard work you put in and I’d love to hear about your thankless chores.
