12 Days of Christmas {Day 12 : Christmas Meaning}

day 12

What does Christmas mean to me?

It’s tough.  Of course it means the birth of our Lord.  It means celebrating His birthday.

In addition to this, it means a time of slowing down.  Taking a break from the hustle and bustle of life.  Easing up on the stress that bogs us down on a daily basis.

It’s spending time with family.  It’s remembering the meaning of this life.

Remembering that it’s not the bills, the house, the job, or even the stuff.  It’s the lives that we can affect, the kids that we raise, and the parents we make proud.

It’s the celebrating, the time spent together, and the memories we make.

It’s remembering that the gifts under the tree are objects to show our affection to those we love.  Remembering it’s not to replace time we spend with them.

I want my kids to remember the amazing times we spend rather than the gifts they were given.

That’s what I remember.

I can hardly remember a single gift from growing up but I remember the Christmas Eve nights spent with one set of grandparents.  Christmas morning spent with the other set.

How do you feel about Christmas?  What will your kids remember?

12 Days of Christmas {Day 11 : Christmas Eve}

day 11

This may sound strange but since we got married we’ve always spent the night at my parents house.  My brother was so much younger than I growing up.  We wanted to keep Christmas as normal as possible for him.

It’s now been over a decade and we are preparing to take two kids, one cat, and a boatload of gifts over there for another Christmas Eve / Christmas Day of fun.

It’s a tradition I hold dear.  It’s always fun.  It’s always relaxing.

Will there come a time when we celebrate at our own house?  Maybe.  For now we’ll enjoy it with my brother, his soon to be wife, my parents, and each other.

As our family grows so does our love for each other.  We have the best time when we are together.

Do you have an amazing time with your family as well?

I’d love to hear about it.  What kind of tradition do you celebrate on Christmas Eve?

12 Days of Christmas {Day 10: Christmas Future}

day 10

One of the traditions I’ve already started planning on for next year is a jar of activities.

I enjoy celebrating the birth of our Lord.

I love shopping, wrapping, baking, cooking, spoiling, and celebrating.

I also love experiences.  In addition to all of this I love the experiences.

The look on their little faces when we put up the Christmas tree.  The sparkle in their eyes when we saw the Disney Castle all lit up last year.  It’s all about the memories for me.

Even when they were babies and most likely unable to recall the details, I will always remember.

I plan on creating a celebration jar shortly after the new year.  I want to do it now so the experiences are fresh in my mind.  We’ll countdown starting the day after Thanksgiving with an activity per day.  Some will be done at home, some will be out on the town, and others will include family members.

I’m excited for this.  The memories we will have.  When I’m older and they are grown we will remember the fun times we had together.

What tradition will you start next year?

Grab a button and come tell us all about it!!

12 Days of Christmas {Day 9 : Christmas Creations}

day 9

Did you find a last minute gift idea on Pinterest?

We’d love to hear about it.

Here’s mine!

Talk about easy.  Here is how simple it is.

I found these cute bells at Hallmark several weeks ago.  They were just under $2 each.

I changed out the tiny gold string for some pretty white ribbon.

I found this super cute printable on Pinterest.  It’s from Teachers Pay Teachers.  Here is the link!

The plan is to put a bell and a ticket in each stocking.  We’ll read the book and watch the movie, then pull them out to see if the ‘bell still rings’ for us!

12 Days of Christmas {Day 8 : Christmas Song}

day 8

My favorite Christmas song is ‘Where Are You Christmas‘ by Faith Hill.

Of course I have probably 5 or 6 favorites but this season I’m choosing this one.  It’s from the movie The Grinch.  If you haven’t heard the little girl in the movie sing this song…you have to!  She’s so cute I almost can’t stand it.

Here are the lyrics.

Where are you Christmas
Why can’t I find you
Why have you gone away
Where is the laughter
You used to bring me
Why can’t I hear music play

My world is changing
I’m rearranging
Does that mean Christmas changes too

Where are you Christmas
Do you remember
The one you used to know
I’m not the same one
See what the time’s done
Is that why you have let me go

Christmas is here
Everywhere, oh
Christmas is here
If you care, oh

If there is love in your heart and your mind
You will feel like Christmas all the time

I feel you Christmas
I know I’ve found you
You never fade away
The joy of Christmas
Stays here inside us
Fills each and every heart with love

Where are you Christmas
Fill your heart with love

Grab a super cute button and link up a post with your favorite Christmas song.
